Vortech MP60/40/10 Owners why you need Mobius in your life

If people own just one piece of Ecotech equipment then its almost always a Vortech, it’s simply one of the best flow systems on the market it’s easy to set up and unobtrusive in the tank.

Now Mobius has arrived If you have only used the pump with the built-in controller then you are leaving a lot of features on the table.

Historically the only way to get all the smart stuff you can do with a Vortech was if you had a Reeflink and as much as the built-in controller allowed you to do some useful flow things. Stuff like mixing the modes or patterns throughout the day, custom patterns etc was strictly only available through Ecosmart Live and a Reeflink. If you are a casual Ecotech user buying a Reeflink to use these features may have of been a bit OTT.

Now with the launch of Mobius for both new and old Quiet Drive pumps, we enter a new era of control. Mobius allows you to mix the patterns through the day. So you can run the pump for an hour in Lagoon Mode, Setup maintenance programs through the day to do things like, 5 minutes of Nutrient transport mode to get debris on the rocks moving and then hit full power for a couple of minutes to push that debris into the water column and out over the weir and into your filter sock or filter roller. With the Mobius scenes feature you have feed mode in your hand at a push of a button. Create custom wave patterns that suit your aquarium and your coral’s, increase and decrease velocity, throughout the full day easily.

How do I get Mobius for my Vortech
If you have recently purchased a Vortech for your Aquarium in the last couple years, then its probably as simple as downloading the App from either Apple or Android stores. Setting up an account and then opening the App and finding the Vortech.

There is a fairly long firmware upgrade to the device and it’s important to keep the App alive and also disable incoming phone calls from your settings as this can lead to interruption of the firmware upgrade. Once completed you can dive straight into the App and start setting up a new much fancier daily schedule.

If you have an older Quiet Drive or are not sure if you have the right chip then simply pop the the three screws on the back and take a peek. If the RF Chip is Black then you are good to go. If it’s green you will need an upgrade chip.

Its also worth noting in these warmer months, an old but still very valid tip is if your tank is running hotter, then it’s worth increasing the flow around the coral to help keep fresh well-oxygenated water passing through them and removing wastes. A corals metabolic rate is fixed to respond to temperature so if it rises a few degrees so do all the corals biological processes. Increasing flow helps to prevent heat stress and the build-up of mucous and associated bacterial infections.
